Why “proof” matters (and why it’s tricky)
If you run an autonomous trading system, you’ll get two common reactions:
- “Cool - show me trades/performance,” and
- “This is probably simulated.”
We want a middle path:
- credible evidence that the system is operating,
- without publishing anything that becomes actionable.
That’s why we use broker-generated reporting as a form of proof.
What we publish as proof
We publish broker-generated PortfolioAnalyst reporting (Interactive Brokers), which includes:
- analysis period,
- time-weighted return (TWR),
- NAV movements,
- and risk measures like drawdown and volatility.
Example (November 2025):
- Cumulative return: 5.87%
- Beginning NAV: 50,072.42
- Ending NAV: 53,009.39
- Max drawdown: 2.06%
- Sharpe ratio: 5.21
- Additional risk stats include Sortino 13.89 and Std. dev. 0.85%
This is produced in Interactive Brokers’ PortfolioAnalyst tool and includes the broker’s standard notes/disclosures.
What this does not prove
A broker report does not prove:
- that results are repeatable,
- that future performance will resemble past performance,
- that a strategy is “good,”
- or that anyone should trade anything.
It also doesn’t explain why returns occurred, what exposures were taken, or what trades were executed. That’s intentional.
Important disclaimer (aligned with the report)
The report itself states it is for information purposes only, provided “AS IS,” and is not an offer or solicitation.
We treat it the same way: evidence of operation, not investment advice.
How to interpret the numbers without over-reading them
A few definitions that help professionals interpret the report responsibly:
- TWR (time-weighted return): designed to reduce distortion from deposits/withdrawals; useful for comparing performance over a period.
- Max drawdown: peak-to-valley decline during the period (in this report: 2.06%).
- Sharpe / Sortino: risk-adjusted metrics; can look “too good” on short windows and shouldn’t be over-weighted.
This is exactly why we pair proof with editorial policy: we show that the system is live, but we don’t convert that into a marketing claim.
